How do students decide to become engineers? At the College of Engineering, we think it's because at some time in their lives, they were fortunate enough to learn what engineers do from a real engineer. That's why we're dedicated to bringing the experience of engineering to students of all ages in our community. Year round, we create fun, interactive learning opportunities that connect kids with professional engineers so they can learn first-hand what engineering is all about.  Here are just a few things your gift will support:

Chickadees Robotics Team

The Chickadees (Team 5871) are an all-girls high school FIRST Robotics team that is sponsored by the Boise State College of Engineering.  The Chickadees work together to build a robot every year and travel to compete in local and regional competitions.  Building these robots involves learning coding, mechanical, electrical, project management, and other hands-on engineering skills.  The team promotes a spirit of inclusiveness and encourages girls to adopt a mindset of supporting each other's ideas and learning from failures.  The Chickadees also do outreach in the community through events like the Engineering and Science Festival, and STEM nights at local schools.  The Chickadees have been recognized with multiple awards at competitions, including the Judge's Award in 2017, the Team Spirit Award in 2018, and the Judge's Award in 2019.

Engineering & Science Festival (8,000 participants of all ages)
