Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program

VITA -- Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program -- offers free tax help to people who make $56,000 or less, persons with disabilities and limited English-speaking taxpayers who need assistance in preparing their tax returns.

Boise State students, certified by the IRS, volunteer to help prepare returns.

The program provides an important service to our community. Boise State students gain real-life experience working with clients and applying tax law. Students identify learning from their clients’ life experiences as very rewarding and broadens their horizons. These business students give clients peace of mind that their tax returns have been completed professionally and for free.

There is a great need for interpreters right now! Boise State VITA program is working with the International Rescue Committee to amend tax returns for refugees who fell victim to a tax return preparation scam this year.

Your donation will help fund:

  • students’ cost for the VITA certification class

  • laptop computers dedicated to VITA

  • travel expenses and IT support for mobile VITA site in rural communities

  • interpreters (urgent need)
